Harvest season is now in full swing across the Konya Plain, widely known as Turkey’s grain basket. As June draws to a close and July begins, farmers have started gathering a wide range of crops. Wheat and barley fields are buzzing with activity, while pulses such as chickpeas and lentils are also being harvested.
Wheat, one of the region’s staple crops, entered harvest season in late June in many parts of Konya. Barley, which ripens slightly earlier, has already been harvested in some areas. Chickpeas and red lentils—well suited to the region’s dry climate—are now being collected across several districts.
In addition to grains and pulses, fruit harvests have also begun. Cherry orchards in Hadim, Taşkent, and Beyşehir are particularly active this season. Apricots, especially those grown in Ereğli and Seydişehir, are also being picked.
Meanwhile, crops like sugar beet and sunflower are still in their growth and maintenance phases. Although not yet ready for harvest, these fields are undergoing intensive irrigation and care. In some early-planted fields, trial harvests and inspections are being carried out.
