Honey Harvest Season Begins in Konya

A traditional honey harvest program was held in Beyşehir, a district of Konya, where beekeepers carried out the first harvest of the new season. During the program, held in the Cedar Forests of Doğanbey Neighborhood, a symbolic honey harvest was conducted featuring honey produced from the region’s rich flora.

The event was attended by Konya Governor İbrahim Akın, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Duran Seçen, Beyşehir District Governor Mehmet Kemal Akpınar, Beyşehir Mayor Adil Bayındır, President of the Turkish Beekeepers Central Union Ali Demir, President of the Konya Beekeepers Association Adem Genç, representatives of public institutions, and beekeepers.

Speaking at the program, Konya Beekeepers Association President Adem Genç and Beyşehir Mayor Adil Bayındır drew attention to the importance of honey production for the regional economy.

In his remarks, Konya Governor İbrahim Akın stated that Konya stands out not only for its identity as Türkiye’s “grain warehouse” but also for its production strength in the field of beekeeping. He said that, thanks to the rich vegetation on the northern slopes of the Taurus Mountains, the province has become one of the country’s important centers for high-quality honey production. Akın noted that approximately 899 tons of honey were produced from nearly 127,000 bee colonies in 2025.

Governor Akın also stated that, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s beehive support program, a total of TRY 12.6 million in support payments was provided to 1,390 enterprises in 2025. He added that the transportation procedures for approximately 25,000 migratory beehives brought to Konya from different provinces during the summer season were carried out successfully.

Following the speeches, the season’s first symbolic honey harvest was held. Governor Akın took part in removing the honey from the honeycombs, uncapping the combs, and placing them into the honey extractor. He also observed the production of the first extracted honey on site.

At the end of the program, Governor Akın wished producers a productive and profitable season. He stated that Konya’s rich flora makes a significant contribution to honey production and said that beekeepers who contribute to production would continue to receive support.
