Konya Plain Project (KOP) Regional Development Administration Chairman Dr. Murat Karakoyunlu said, “Even a drop of water is important for our region.”
Konya Plain Project (KOP) Regional Development Administration Chairman Dr. Murat Karakoyunlu spoke at the Climate Change and Future of Cities workshop held in Konya. He shared information about the activities of the Regional Development Administration. Mr. Karakoyunlu focused on climate change, soil and water management, development of modern and alternative production types, improvement of on-site production and onsite consumption mechanisms, efficiency, improvement of production conditions in cities and rural areas that should be evaluated as a whole, increasing the share of the producer in the value chain depending on the climate change. He also shared his views on minimizing the related risks, eliminating inter-regional imbalances and reducing the burden of cities.
“Closed Systems are a Must for Water Management”
Dr. Karakoyunlu stated that he supports the developmentoriented activities of the KOP Regional Development Administration, which serves as a subsidiary of the Ministry of Industry and Technology (STB), with multi-sectoral projects. He emphasized that they prioritize the region’s irrigation-based projects and efficiency-oriented works, as emphasized by Minister M. Fatih Kacır during the parliamentary work.
Dr. Karakoyunlu reminded that climate change, when combined with the structural problems of the region, can cause much more devastating consequences. He said that, “In this context, the policies developed by our state are determined by the centre and are also supported by local elements. Even a drop of water is important for our region. For this reason, we pay attention to every point from evaporation to land losses, and we support development with smallscale projects in order to prevent water from being damaged by both environmental impacts and management deficiencies.”
