New Agricultural Model in Konya

New Agricultural Model in Konya

The Konya Metropolitan Municipality has launched a new initiative in urban agriculture by establishing a soilless farming area within the garden of the Konya Science Center, focusing on research and development in soilless production techniques.

Located in Turkey’s first and largest TÜBİTAK-supported science center, which was brought to the city by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, this innovative farming area serves as a significant model for the future of agriculture in Konya.

During his visit to the facility, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that the municipality is implementing comprehensive efforts to enhance rural incomes and promote sustainable agricultural practices in Konya, a city long recognized for its agricultural prominence.

Highlighting that Konya is both a leading agricultural hub and a region facing serious water scarcity issues, Mayor Altay noted, “We prioritize crops that require less water across our agricultural lands, while also working to introduce modern, globally applied methods. Through these initiatives, we aim to develop new agricultural models that will help our farmers increase their income and support a more sustainable future.”
