The school museum established at a high school in Seydisehir, Konya, showcases the city's culture through sections such as an elementary school classroom, culinary traditions, and aspects of daily life.
Open to visitors for about a year, the museum displays 901 artifacts donated by students, parents, and teachers across a 342-square-meter area.
Mustafa Uçan, Principal of Seyit Harun Anatolian High School, explained that they began work on the project after history teacher Ercan Arslan proposed the idea of establishing a museum at the school in 2021.
Uçan said, “Teachers, students, and parents supported the project. Staff dedicated their weekends and time outside of work to contribute wholeheartedly. We did all the work ourselves, from wood and stone craftsmanship to bricklaying. The 342-square-meter museum features a nostalgia classroom, a section on culinary traditions, and an area showcasing daily life.”
Uçan stated that the museum has welcomed approximately 1,200 visitors in the past year.
History teacher Ercan Arslan noted that students also supported the idea of establishing a school museum. He mentioned that they are displaying 901 artifacts in the museum, with an additional 600 pieces in storage, and emphasized that the museum is open to visitors on weekdays when school is in session.
Arslan stated, “The oldest artifact, a copper pitcher from 1867, is displayed in the 'Seydişehir Culinary Culture' section. It’s evident that it was crafted by a non-Muslim artisan. Textbooks from the 1960s and 1970s are also featured in the 'Nostalgia Classroom' section.”
