A total of 78 million kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated from waste in Konya last year

In five facilities of Konya Metropolitan Municipality where electricity is generated from methane gas, a total of 78 million 11 thousand 490 kilowatt-hours of electricity was produced last year.

Waste at Konya Solid Waste Landfill Site, as well as Cihanbeyli, Ereğli, and Akşehir Solid Waste Landfill Sites and Aslım Solid Waste Site, is being converted into electricity.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated to journalists that they give great importance to preserving nature and using renewable energy sources with their environmental investments.

Altay emphasized that they are working not only to protect the environment but also to contribute to the city's economy. He stated:

"As part of this effort, our municipality operates 5 facilities that generate electricity from methane gas. At our energy production facilities in Aslım, Akşehir, Ereğli, and Cihanbeyli, in addition to Konya Solid Waste Landfill Site, methane gases with 21 times more global warming potential than carbon dioxide, produced by the solid waste mass, are converted into electricity. This provides both greenhouse gas reduction and energy production. In 2022, our facilities generated 78 million 11 thousand 490 kilowatt-hours of electricity. The total amount of electricity produced so far is 617 million 542 thousand 178 kilowatt-hours."
