Karatay’s Lavender Contribute to the Production Economy

Karatay’s Lavender Contribute to the Production Economy

Karatay Municipality makes many products of the lavender of the Karatay Lavender Garden, which was built in Karaaslan Üzümcü District. Karatay’s Lavender, which is frequently preferred by sectors such as medicine, food and cosmetics, has been used as raw material in the production of soap, cologne, ice cream, soda, cream and jam.

Every day, the product variety of Karatay Lavender increases, and the products obtained from it are promoted at events such as fairs, festivals, and promotional days held not only in Konya but also throughout Turkey. These Lavender products, actively sold at events where Karatay Municipality participates, have quickly become favourites among the citizens, turning into a new brand for Konya and Karatay, contributing to the local economy.

Citizens can obtain products made of Karatay Lavender at Lavanta Café across Karatay Lavender Garden, as well as from Café Karatay built by Karatay Municipality in the district and Karatay Thermal Holiday Village.

Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay stated that “We are obtaining versatile yield from high-value lavender. Karatay Lavender and Lavender products have become the new favourite of the citizens. The Lavender Garden we built in Karaaslan Üzümcü District has become one of the new attraction centres in the region with its visual appeal. We contribute to the economy with lavender oil, jam, ice cream, soda, and many other products.”

Kılca also stated, “We continue to create projects that will add value to our city and district. We are a district with different riches, unique beauties, and fertile lands. Aware of this, in 2019, we started efforts to establish Turkey’s largest lavender garden. The area we worked on was previously covered with rubble and occupied. We created Karatay Lavender Garden, and we have a garden with unique beauty. Our garden contributes not only with its visual appeal but also to the economy. For example, we produce products such as soap, cologne, ice cream, soda, cream, and jam from the lavender in our garden. Our products, produced without using any chemical preservatives or flavour enhancers and entirely through traditional methods, have gained great appreciation. With this project, we, as Karatay Municipality, also aim to support our farmers. We have made significant progress in this regard.”
