Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay met with tradespeople, residents, and local media in Seydişehir and inaugurated the Çaltepesi Water Softening Plant.
Mayor Altay’s visit to Seydişehir began with an inspection at the ancient burial site (necropolis) where Roman-era tomb remains were discovered.
Mayor Altay stated that they conducted examinations at the necropolis bearing traces of the past, saying, “This area is a significant archaeological heritage that has survived from the Roman period to the present day. We will continue our efforts to preserve this valuable site, which sheds light on our history, and to pass it on to future generations.”
After greeting citizens following the noon prayer at Seyyid Harun Veli Mosque, Mayor Altay inaugurated the Çaltepesi Water Softening Plant, which was brought to Seydişehir by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and İLBANK.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, KOSKİ General Manager Ahmet Demir stated that the newly commissioned facility aims to provide Seydişehir with higher-quality and better water. He said, “The plant has a capacity of approximately 100 liters per second, and the water hardness level will range between 10 and 20 French degrees. I hope our facility will bring good fortune and blessings to Seydişehir and our Konya.”
Emphasizing the importance of protecting and using water resources efficiently during this period of reduced rainfall and pronounced effects of climate change, Mayor Altay said, “Although there was no problem with the flow rate of our water source here, there was an issue with its hardness, which caused discomfort, especially in drinking and domestic use. With the support of our Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and İLBANK, we built this facility at a current cost of 65 million lira. After completing the field and landscaping works, it will be put into service. In this way, our citizens will enjoy much more comfortable water use.”
Following the speeches, the Çaltepesi Water Softening Plant, built in Seydişehir at a cost of 65 million lira, was inaugurated with prayers.
