Mayor Altay: “We Are Building One of Turkey’s Most Modern Facilities for the National Defense Ministry”

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ugur Ibrahim Altay, together with members of the press, inspected the ongoing construction work of the 56th Maintenance Factory Directorate, carried out by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality as part of the Urban Transformation project.

During the inspection conducted in Selçuklu’s Aşağı Pınarbaşı Neighborhood, where the facility will be relocated, Mayor Altay spoke to members of the press, emphasizing that urban transformation is one of the most crucial issues in the country. He stated that significant urban transformation projects are being carried out in Konya.

Mayor Altay stated, “When you ask the public in Konya, there are three key areas that need urban transformation, and we have been working on them. The first is the Old Industry and Karatay Industry. Hopefully, our next visit will be there, and you will witness how significant this project is for our city, carried out in cooperation with TOKİ, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, and the Konya Metropolitan Municipality. The second is the ammunition depot area on Sille Road. Under the protocol we signed with the Ministry of National Defense (MSB) and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, we built one of Turkey’s most modern ammunition depots in Çumra at a current cost of 4.8 billion lira and handed it over to the Ministry of National Defense. That facility has become one of Turkey’s exemplary projects.”

Mayor Altay emphasized that they are providing solutions to the city’s vital issues, stating, “As we mentioned, we joined forces and are making Konya’s dreams come true one by one. In this way, we are transforming an area that has remained in the city center, creating significant military congestion, and serving no purpose beyond being a facility, into a modern space. Most importantly, we are turning it into a new production hub right next to the Organized Industrial Zone and across from ASELSAN Konya before handing it over to the Ministry of National Defense.”

Emphasizing their continuous efforts to do the best for Konya, Mayor Altay stated, “The cost of just two of our urban transformation projects to our Metropolitan Municipality exceeds 9 billion lira. I would like to send a message to those whose advertising budgets exceed their urban transformation budgets: what truly matters is making our cities more resilient, strengthening institutional cooperation, and carrying out projects that benefit the city. People will be remembered for what they accomplish, and we are striving to leave a lasting impact on Konya’s history with our work. I especially want to thank everyone involved, from our contractor firm to the workers on-site, and I hope for a smooth and accident-free completion of the project. I also extend my gratitude to my colleagues, as there is immense effort and dedication behind this work. Together, in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, we are successfully bringing this process to completion. I hope this project will be beneficial for our city. God willing, this facility will strengthen our Ministry of National Defense and our soldiers, marking a significant milestone for our country’s future.”
