The Handicrafts of Women Peasants Are Being Exported with the Help of Mukhtar Ozlem in Konya

Before the metropolitan law, Karacadağ was a village. In the foothills of the mountain there were 4 neighbourhoods and the lives of the women in the area has altered with the election of Özlem Çelik as the mukhtar. 

A WEAVING WORKPLACE WAS ESTABLISHED BY 42 WOMEN

Çelik was the pioneer to establish a cooperative with 42 other women in the area. They aimed to serve local flavours to the consumers. They also got the support of district municipality and established a workplace to liven weaving which were done at homes 50 years ago.

RUGS AND CARPETS ARE BEING EXPORTED

Thanks to this cooperative which enables the rugs and carpets to be exported to the USA women in the area started to have additional incomes.

AN ANCIENT TRADITION CAME TO LIFE

Çelik made an explanation in the rug and carpet workplace which was established in the stone building in Ekizli neighbourhood and she expressed that she was happy to create a new source of income by rug and carpet weaving, which was a forgotten ancient tradition, for the women in the area.
