Selcuk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine treated 20
thousand 250 animals this year.
Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Erdem, Chief Physician of the University's
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital, stated in a written statement
that the hospital is one of the largest animal hospitals in Turkey with 11
thousand square meters.
Emphasizing that they provide 24/7 services for the
diagnosis and treatment of animals, Erdem said, "60 percent of those who
entered the Small Animal Hospital were cats and 40 percent were dogs, exotic
and wild animals. There are 8 pre-examination rooms in our hospital. If
necessary, the animal examined is directed to treatment rooms, imaging units,
central laboratory, x-ray or MRI units."
Pointing out that they are one of the first teams in Turkey
in terms of the use of ultrasound in animals, Erdem said:
"In addition to providing a quality health service to
sick animals, we also offer a quality education to undergraduate, graduate and
doctoral students. When we look at the number of patient entries, we have
reached 20 thousand 250 as of the 51st week of this year. In addition to Konya,
there is a serious demand for our hospital from the surrounding provinces,
especially from Karaman, Aksaray, Niğde, Nevşehir, Antalya, Mersin and Ankara.
We have a protocol with Konya Metropolitan Municipality. Within the scope of
the protocol, the first intervention to emergency cases of stray animals is
carried out in our hospital. This gives us a significant variety of cases.”
