Selçuk University Receives Support for Cancer Treatment Project

The project prepared at Selçuk University for cancer treatment has received funding support from the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

The project aims to transform anticancer drugs into targeted forms that minimize side effects. Prof. Dr. Yılmaz stated that the project aims to prevent side effects by making existing cancer drugs more targeted, rather than discovering a new cancer drug.

Yılmaz stated, “We have been working on nano capsules for about 25 years, meaning we synthesize compounds at the nanoscale. We call these compounds nano baskets. We plan to load the drugs into these baskets and deliver them to their targets. In this process, we will use hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the body and widely known. After attaching the carriers to the acid, we will load the drugs and direct them to cancer cells without causing much harm to healthy cells. There are many receptors in cancer cells where this acid can bind. This way, hyaluronic acid will target the cancer cells.”
