Many treatment methods are applied in musculoskeletal system diseases, which are common in all age groups. Many of these treatment methods are applied only to eliminate the complaints of patients for a certain period of time. In some tissues, irreversible damage and in others healable damage occurs. In order to heal damaged tissues, stem cell therapies have become widely used in recent years. Private Medicana Konya Hospital Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology Doctors Dr. Harun Kütahya and Asst. Prof. Dr. Hamza Hakan Türk said that stem cell applications have started to take their place among the routines in the treatment of joint and muscle tissue damages in their fields.

Emphasizing that adult stem cells are mostly applied in Orthopedics and Traumatology applications, Dr. Hamza Hakan Türk and Dr. Harun Kütahya said, "Stem cells are divided into two main groups as embryonic and adult and stem cells; It is obtained from adipose tissue, bone marrow, placenta, amniotic fluid and umbilical cord. Mesenchymal stem cells are usually obtained from bone marrow and adipose tissue. Although bone marrow is often used as a source of stem cells, the use of adipose tissue-derived stem cells has come to the agenda due to its disadvantages such as being expensive and painful aspiration. Adipose tissue-derived stem cell applications are widely used in clinical practice due to their easy and quick application. The effect of the stem cell can be explained by the transformation into tissues in its environment and the various healing factors it secretes into the environment in which it is located."

Türk and Kütahya said, "The use of fat-derived stem cells is also promising in terms of the treatment of tendon and ligament diseases. There are studies reporting that the use of adipose tissue-derived stem cells is effective in the treatment of Achillestendinopathies. We are already frequently performing the aforementioned application areas and treatments. Thanks to the high level of evidence and long-follow-up studies to be carried out all over the world, we think that the clinical applications of adipose tissue-derived stem cell therapy may become more widespread and guiding in the future."
