Konya Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration General Directorate continues its water supply efforts without interruption in response to population growth, climate change, and increasing drought risks.
The water supply works carried out by KOSKİ at 179 different locations in 2025 reached a record level in the institution’s history, marking a fourfold increase compared to 2024.
Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that in Konya, one of the cities most affected by water scarcity, they have made investments by taking preventive measures in advance to avoid any problems with drinking and domestic water supply. Within this scope, he noted that new water sources have been brought into service through water supply works carried out across 25 districts throughout 2025.
Mayor Altay emphasized that due to declining water levels in reservoirs, the drinking and domestic water needs of Konya residents have been met through boreholes that were drilled as a precautionary measure in advance, adding that these efforts have helped prevent potential water shortages, particularly during the summer months.
Mayor Altay noted that they have reached the highest level in the institution’s history in water supply efforts, saying:
“Through drilling works carried out by our KOSKİ General Directorate at 179 different locations across Konya in 2025, a total of 38,428 meters of drilling was completed. As a result of these works, we brought a total water flow of 2,146 liters per second into service for our city. As of 2025, the total maximum flow rate reached 2,453 liters per second, while the total operational flow rate stood at 2,146 liters per second. With high-capacity drilling works carried out especially in the districts of Meram, Selçuklu, Karatay, and Kulu, our water supply capacity has been significantly increased. Water is the foundation of life. We continue our work with determination by taking preventive measures in advance to provide our residents with healthy and uninterrupted drinking water. These investments are of great importance not only for Konya’s present but also for its future.”
Konya Metropolitan Municipality KOSKİ General Directorate carried out drilling works at 51 different locations in 2023 and at 44 locations in 2024. The last time the number of drilling operations exceeded 100 was in 2015, while the annual average has been around 50 different sites. In this respect, the 179 drilling works carried out in 2025 due to water scarcity represent a record level.
