Konya Receives Leadership Award

Konya Metropolitan Municipality is making a name for itself in the world with its successful work on "Smart City" applications.



Konya Metropolitan Municipality's efforts in the field of "Smart City" initiatives are being led by the Mayor of Konya, Uğur İbrahim Altay. He was awarded the "Smart City Leadership Award" at the World Mayors Forum during the World Cities Mayor's Forum event, which was organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government of South Korea and The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization, an organization known for its global prestige.



The existing smart city initiatives of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, along with more than 100 smart city projects planned to be implemented by 2030, earned the municipality an award. This award was achieved among 200 projects submitted from 47 countries and 93 cities.



Mayor Altay stated, "We are working tirelessly to achieve the leadership position we have attained in the field of smart city initiatives in our country on a global scale. We are preparing Konya for smarter tomorrows by envisioning a peaceful, resilient, and sustainable city that future generations will be proud of."



The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WEGO) and the Seoul Metropolitan Government of South Korea annually award leaders who demonstrate exceptional projects and efforts in the field of "Smart Cities." During the competition, Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, who leads Konya's initiatives in Smart City development, was honored with the prestigious "Smart City Leadership Award" at the World Cities Summit Mayors Forum event, adding to its global prestige.



Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay was nominated for the competition due to the many smart city initiatives introduced by Konya Metropolitan Municipality, the plan to implement over 100 smart city projects by 2030, and the widespread appreciation of the success of current applications from various sectors.



Konya Metropolitan Municipality made it to the finals in the "Human-Centered Project" category with the "Accessible Konya for Disabled" project and in the "Leadership" category with Uğur İbrahim Altay in a competition that received 200 project submissions from 47 countries and 93 cities across Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America, and Oceania. Konya Metropolitan Municipality was awarded the prize in the leadership category.



The award was received on behalf of Mayor Altay by Konya Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Uzbaş at the World Cities Summit Mayors Forum event held in Seoul.
