Konya's traditional architecture comes to life with restoration

The Karatay Municipality, which has carried out numerous works with the aim of preserving the historical and cultural wealth of the central Karatay district in Konya, is currently restoring a historic building near the Piri Mehmed Pasha Mosque in compliance with its registration.

The Karatay Municipality is engaged in meticulous work to preserve the historical structures of the district and pass them on to future generations. In this context, the municipality is restoring a historic building near the Piri Mehmed Pasha Mosque in Aziziye neighborhood in compliance with its registration. The building, which was constructed using rubble masonry technique and predominantly wooden materials, has two floors with an interior courtyard plan type, and is one of the most beautiful examples of civilian architecture. Dated back to the end of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century, the restoration of the building, which contributes to the cultural and historical heritage of the city, will cost approximately 4 million Turkish Liras. The restoration work is expected to be completed in a short period of time with the aim of adding the building to Konya's tourism industry.

Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca, who stated that the historic building on which the restoration work is almost completed is one of the most beautiful examples of Karatay's and Konya's traditional architectural values, said that they will promote the building for tourism after completing the restoration of the unique architecture. Kılca emphasized that they did not interrupt their projects aimed at protecting the cultural and historical heritage of the country and the city, and said, "We are doing our best to preserve the historical, cultural and traditional identity of our district and city, and to carry our valuable heritage to the future. In this context, we are restoring the historic building near the Piri Mehmed Pasha Mosque in compliance with its registration. We are now close to completing the restoration of our building, which is dated back to the end of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century, and is a beautiful example of our city's traditional architectural texture. By completing the restoration of this historically rich structure with its unique architecture, we will add it to tourism. We attach great importance to the fact that the building is located in a position that we can call the heart of our district. As Karatay Municipality, we will both protect our history and transfer it to future generations. Our projects like this will highlight the historical and cultural beauties of our district."
