Konya Shares Transport Expertise with Europe

Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to raise awareness by taking part in significant projects in Europe in the field of urban mobility.


As part of the SAFELY (Enhancing Road Safety for Vulnerable Road Users with Smart Analytics) Project, in which Konya Metropolitan Municipality is a partner, officials from the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton and the company Parabol visited Konya Metropolitan Municipality to learn more about its transportation projects.


The program held at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Traffic Coordination Center was attended by Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Ercan Uslu and Head of the Transportation Department Hasan Görgülü.


Officials from the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton thanked Konya Metropolitan Municipality for its hospitality and expressed their pleasure in being part of the project together, stating that it was a great privilege to have the municipality share its work in the field of transportation with them.


Berlin Technical University, one of the project partners, also participated in the two-day meetings online and contributed to the exchange of information.


The delegation from the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton and the company Parabol also had the opportunity to explore Konya Metropolitan Municipality’s exemplary transportation projects during an organized field visit.


TRANSPORTATION INITIATIVES PROMOTED ON INTERNATIONAL PLATFORMS


Konya Metropolitan Municipality has been a member of EIT Urban Mobility, Europe’s largest innovation community in urban mobility, since 2023 as part of its Leading City membership.


The SAFELY project aims not only to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities at the local level but also across Europe. Through this project, Konya contributes significantly to the creation of safer and more sustainable cities by leveraging the power of international cooperation.


In the short term, SAFELY will address safety gaps in high-risk areas, while in the medium to long term, it aims to establish a scalable model to improve road safety in cities.
