Mayor Altay Meets with Students of Selçuk University Faculty of Letters

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay attended the “University Meetings” program organized by the Youth Council of the Metropolitan Municipality at the Faculty of Letters of Selçuk University.

Speaking at the event held in the Namık Kemal Amphitheater Hall of the Faculty of Letters at Selçuk University, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz stated that young people are Turkey’s greatest assurance and the strongest guarantee of its future. He said, “A strong, great, and prosperous Turkey will undoubtedly rise through your efforts. I would like to thank our esteemed Metropolitan Mayor, who always stands by our university and adds great value to our city through his support for science and culture.”

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that Konya stands out in many aspects and is home to some of the strongest universities in Anatolia. He began his speech by saying, “Therefore, our universities make a great contribution to the development of our city. You provide a significant human resource for Konya. I hope your time here will be pleasant and memorable, and that you will spend some of your best days in our city.”

Emphasizing that the facilities of Selçuk University are improving day by day, Mayor Altay thanked Rector Prof. Dr. Yılmaz for his contributions and said, “This city is a valuable one. We are in one of the rare settlements in the world that has sustained urban life for 10,000 years. Throughout history, some cities have risen to prominence but disappeared into the dusty pages of time. Konya is not such a city. Starting from Çatalhöyük, recognized by UNESCO as the world’s first city, important civilizations have ruled here in every era. From the Phrygians to the Lydians, from the Seljuks to the Ottomans, Konya has always been a significant city.”

At the end of his speech, Mayor Altay advised young people to enjoy their time in Konya, saying, “Make an effort to get to know Konya, to discover its beauty, and to take advantage of the events organized by the Metropolitan Municipality and district municipalities. Let beautiful memories of Konya remain in your minds. As the people of Konya, we are very happy to welcome you.”
