Suriçi Bazaar Shines with Green Energy

Suriçi Bazaar Shines with Green Energy

The Suriçi Bazaar Urban Transformation Project, implemented by Meram Municipality, draws attention not only for its architectural, historical, and aesthetic transformation but also for its environmentally friendly approach.

Rebuilt with a modern urban planning approach, the bazaar has now been illuminated with green energy, once again setting a pioneering and exemplary model for the city and urban transformation.

The Suriçi Bazaar Urban Transformation Project, a major initiative by Meram Municipality, has become a pioneering and exemplary model not only for its architectural and aesthetic transformation but also for its environmentally friendly approach.

Rebuilt with respect for history and a modern urban planning approach, the bazaar has now been fully illuminated with green energy, becoming a symbol of sustainable municipal governance and modern transformation in Konya.

As part of the works carried out by the Machinery Supply, Maintenance and Repair Directorate of Meram Municipality, a modern architectural lighting system known as “wallwasher” has been installed on the façades of the buildings in the bazaar.

This system is powered entirely by solar panels. The energy generated is stored in lithium battery systems that comply with fire safety regulations and meet high safety standards, ensuring uninterrupted lighting.

As a result, the façades of the Suriçi Bazaar are illuminated entirely with renewable energy, without the need for grid electricity. This not only ensures energy savings but also reduces carbon emissions, putting an environmentally responsible practice into effect.

Mayor Mustafa Kavuş of Meram Municipality emphasized that this environmentally friendly investment implemented in the Suriçi Bazaar is not merely a lighting project, but a vision-driven initiative. In his remarks on this new urban approach, Mayor Kavuş stated:

“We are responsible not only for building today, but also for shaping the future. This project we have carried out in the Suriçi Bazaar is a significant reflection of our environmentally conscious and sustainable urban planning approach. Utilizing renewable resources such as solar energy is a major gain both economically and ecologically. We will continue our investments in this direction to leave a cleaner and more livable Meram for future generations.”
