Vigil for Sultans of Seljuk

In the Seljuk capital, Konya, a vigil is held by the Metropolitan Municipality after every Friday prayer at the Alaaddin Mosque Sultans Tomb, where the Seljuk Sultans are buried.


Konya Metropolitan Municipality has started a tradition for a vigil every Friday in the section where the tomb of the Seljuk Sultans is located in the Alaaddin Mosque. Uğur İbrahim Altay, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, stated that “Our Seljuk ancestors made great sacrifices and wrote epics of heroism in order to take root in Anatolian lands. This city was the capital of the Turkish Seljuk State and maintained this characteristic for nearly two hundred years. From the Seljuk Sultans who struggled for the truth to come and the falsehood to be destroyed; Eight Seljuk Sultans, Rükneddin Mesud I, Kılıç Arslan II, Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev I, Rukneddin Süleyman Shah II, Alaaddin Keykubat I, Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II, Rükneddin Kılıç Arslan IV, Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev III, were buried in the courtyard of Alaaddin Mosque.”
