A Traditional Treat from Konya

A Traditional Treat from Konya

Uyutma, a traditional dessert from Konya cuisine, is a delightful treat made with figs and milk. This fresh and easy-to-make dessert is particularly enjoyed and holds a special place in Turkmen culture, often prepared for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 12 dried figs
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 3 cups of milk

Recipe

  • Begin by washing the figs and chopping them into small pieces.
  • Boil the milk until it reaches a gentle simmer.
  • Place the chopped figs in a dish and sprinkle them with sugar.
  • Pour the hot milk over the figs, and mash the mixture well using a spoon or your hands.
  • Cover the dish with a lid and apply some pressure. Allow it to ferment for 10 to 12 hours, similar to the process of making yogurt.
  • After fermentation, transfer the dessert to the refrigerator and serve it cold.
