Konya and Samarkand Strengthen Ties

President of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Uğur İbrahim Altay, carried out a series of visits in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

As part of the Türkiye-Uzbekistan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) and the 8th Term Meeting held under the chairmanship of Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Mayor Altay signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Union of Turkish World Municipalities and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan.

Mayor Altay also visited Fazliddin Umarov, Mayor of Samarkand, which is Konya’s sister city, and Salih Caner, the Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Samarkand.

Noting that they are working to strengthen cooperation with Samarkand in every field within the framework of the sister-city relationship, Mayor Altay said, “One of our main goals is to enhance our city's foreign policy vision and international role. I extend my sincere thanks to both Mayor Umarov and our Consul General Caner for their warm hospitality.”
