The meeting hosted by Konya for the United Cities and Local Governments World Organization was marked by Mayor Uğur Ibrahim Altay's protest against Israel. Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur Ibrahim Altay left the hall when the Israeli delegation began to address the hall via an online connection.
As is known, members of the United Cities and Local Governments World Organization gathered in Konya at the Selçuklu Congress Center, hosted by Konya Metropolitan Municipality.
An interesting development occurred during the congress led by Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur Ibrahim Altay.
Delegations from countries all around the world addressed the hall one by one via remote connections to the United Cities and Local Governments World Organization.
Within the framework of presentations by the UCLG-MEWA organization, which is one of the regional branches of the organization and was established through the gathering of municipalities in the Middle East and Western Asia, both the Palestinian and Israeli delegations addressed the hall via online connections.
First, the Palestinian delegation delivered a speech and addressed the hall. After the speech by the Palestinian delegate, President Uğur Ibrahim Altay and other members stood up and applauded the Palestinian delegation's speech for several minutes.
Following this speech, a delegate from the Union of Israeli Municipalities also connected to the hall online and addressed the audience. At this moment, President Uğur Ibrahim Altay stood up, invited the delegates in the hall to leave, and exited the room. In protest, participants from the Asian MEWA and other regions also left the hall alongside Uğur Ibrahim Altay.
As a result of the effective protest against Israel, following the action, the mayors and delegates in the hall left the room, leaving the Israeli delegation to address an empty hall through the online connection.
