Mayor Altay Joins Indonesian Event

Uğur Ibrahim Altay, the President of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and the Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, attended the 10th World Water Forum hosted by Indonesia.

Mayor Altay emphasized that the increasing global population and rapid urbanization are putting growing pressure on water resources worldwide.

Altay pointed out that climate change negatively affects the water cycle, leading to the further spread of problems such as drought and water scarcity. He stated, "This situation once again highlights how critical the sustainable management of water is. In this context, the responsibility of local governments in water usage is of great importance."

Altay stated, "As the President of UCLG, we expressed our views on issues such as access to water for people worldwide, ensuring that water is made available as a sustainable resource for all, and increasing social welfare. Additionally, as in every international meeting, we drew attention to the fact that our brothers and sisters in Gaza are subjected to genocide by being deprived of water and food, and we urged the international community to speak out more to end this genocide as soon as possible. I hope that the meeting will contribute to access to water for all people around the world."
