accompanying delegation met with Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay. Mayor Hasan
Kılca expressed his pleasure with the visit and emphasized the significance of
their bilateral relations with Senegal, as well as all African countries.
Mayor Kılca expressed his gratitude to the ambassador for
the visit and stated, "We are delighted to welcome our ambassador and his
delegation to our district. Karatay is an ancient district with a population of
370,000 and covers an area of 2,800 square kilometers. It is a significant
tourism hub, attracting around 3-4 million tourists every year. In addition to tourism, we are also an agricultural city with vast
farming areas. Karatay stands out as one of Konya's most important districts in
terms of agricultural production. However, in recent times, we have witnessed
the rise of industrial sites in Karatay due to the major transformation in our
city. Many of Konya's industrial zones are relocating to Karatay. Currently, we
have around 70 industrial sites, large and small, with the Aykent Footwear
Industrial Site alone comprising 1,500 workshops."
Senegal's Ambassador to Ankara, Cheikh Gueye, highlighted
the continuous improvement in the relations between Turkey and Senegal. He
specifically emphasized the importance of collaborations in agricultural
production. Cheikh Gueye mentioned, "I visited Konya with my wife and
friends because I love this city. Konya is a well-known and cherished city in
Senegal as well. As you pointed out, Konya's significance in agriculture and
animal husbandry is widely recognized. In Senegal, we have a significant
company involved in poultry farming. Hopefully, this fruitful cooperation will
continue to grow with the contributions of Konya's businessmen and
yourself."
