UCLG Must Stand Against Israel’s Cruelty

Uğur İbrahim Altay, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality of Konya and the Co-President of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), stated that they must stand against the offensive and occupying force of Israel in Palestine as UCLG in the Executive Board charter meeting. Altay spoke at the Executive Board meeting to the different mayors from different countries and said that “on behalf of the humanity, and on behalf of rights and justice, this is our common duty”.  

Uğur İbrahim Altay, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality of Konya and the Co-President of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), attended the Executive Board charter meeting. The meeting was held via video-conference system. Mayor Altay started his speech by expressing that Al-aqsa mosque is the heart of Muslims and one of the holiest structures in Islamic faith. And it is also the first qibla for Muslims. He also reminded that, once again in holy Ramadan days, Israel military attacked hundreds of Muslims-both young and adults- who were praying in Al-aqsa mosque.     

WE WANT ISRAEL TO STOP ITS ATTACKS AGAINST PALESTINIAN PEOPLE

Mayor Altay called for Israel, which does not attempt fair and permanent solution and does not have any peaceful attempts, to stop its attacks against the properties and holy places of Palestinian people and to stop the systematic violations. Altay expressed that as UCLG they have to stand against Israel’s offensive and occupying force in order to end the inhuman attacks in Jerusalem which is a common heritage of humanity. He ended his speech by saying “on behalf of the humanity, and on behalf of rights and justice, this is our common duty. I wish a world in which there are no wars, and no injustice. I wish a world in which all innocent people and orphans smile.”
