UCLG President Altay Attends BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities Establishment Meeting

Ugur Ibrahim Altay, who is the President of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) World Organization and the Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, attended the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities Establishment Meeting.


Mayor Altay, speaking at the program held in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, which is part of Russia, expressed his satisfaction at participating in such a program that will further strengthen the role of cities in the international system.


Altay emphasized that the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities is a significant initiative that represents a major step towards the economic growth, development, and social advancement of cities.


Mayor Altay, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation to tackle global challenges and achieve sustainable development, continued:


"The BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities represents a unique opportunity to maximize this collaboration and translate it into concrete projects through our cities and municipalities. The establishment of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities will contribute to all our ongoing actions, including combating climate change, ending wars, building peace, addressing refugee issues, and reducing inequalities. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to collaborate to make our cities and municipalities stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable. This new union will enhance the sharing of knowledge and experience, provide a platform for joint projects and initiatives, and disseminate best practices." 


A declaration to establish the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities was also issued during the meeting.
