Konya Metropolitan Municipality is organizing the 6th Sufi Cinema Festival as part of the celebrations marking Mevlana’s arrival in Konya.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at Taş Bina Culture and Art Center, the General Art Director of the 6th Sufi Cinema Festival, İhsan Kabil, expressed his hope that the festival, organized with the valuable support of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Directorate General of Cinema, and TRT, would be a fruitful one.
Kabil reminded that Konya is a spiritual center that brings people from all over the world together and is the city of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi. He stated, “In this sense, we are uniting different ends; we are honored to be part of such a beautiful event. Our Konya adds great color to it. It elevates our emotions and uplifts our spirit.”
Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay expressed their great honor in welcoming artists from many different cultures—from Bosnia to the United States, from the United Kingdom to Iran, and from Uzbekistan to Italy—in the city of Mevlana, Konya.
Mayor Altay noted that the Sufi Cinema Festival has been added as a new link to a chain of major events such as the Şeb-i Arus ceremonies, the International Mystic Music Festival, and the Book Fair. He said, “Through this festival, we are bringing together not only films with deep intellectual themes but also a wide range of genres—from popular cinema to children's films, from documentaries to international productions—for audiences in Konya and cinema lovers across the country.”
As part of the 6th Sufi Cinema Festival, which aims to convey the universal messages of Sufism through cinema and to bring spiritual depth to the art of film, numerous producers, directors, and actors from both Turkey and abroad will come together in Konya’s spiritual atmosphere.
The 6th Sufi Cinema Festival, where Sufi-themed films, documentaries, talks, panels, workshops, and various events will be held, will continue until May 11 at the Taş Bina Culture and Art Center, Mevlana Cultural Center, Depo No: 4, and Kültürpark, all organized by the Metropolitan Municipality.
