As part of the 750th anniversary of the death of Hazrat
Mevlana, 190 varieties of roses are being grown on an area of 14,000 square
meters in the Karatay district of Konya.
Karatay Municipality Mayor Hasan Kılca stated that there are
visitors from many parts of the world who come to Konya to pay their respects
to Hazrat Mevlana.
Kılca emphasized that the municipality continues its
investments in green areas and stated, "Roses are frequently mentioned in
Mevlana's works. Therefore, on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the
death of Hazrat Mevlana, we dedicated this garden to him. We named the garden
we have created in Karatay as 'Mevlana Rose Garden.' Here, we have 190
different types of roses in an area of 14,000 square meters. There are also
sculptures of nightingales, swings, and gazebos. Visitors, as well as brides
and grooms, come here for photo shoots. Our students will immortalize their
memories here during graduation ceremonies."
Kılca pointed out that the Saraçoğlu neighborhood, where the
garden is located, has a total of 1 million square meters of green space,
making it a focal point of attraction. He stated, "We are adding beauty to
Karatay's charm. Out of this area, 340,000 square meters are designated for our
lavender garden. We have also planted trees in other areas. There is an
additional 350,000 square meters for both hobby gardens and picnic areas. By
doing so, we are increasing the amount of green space per person in our Karatay
district."
Fırat Aka, who came from Iğdır to visit the city, expressed
his admiration for the "Mevlana Rose Garden." He shared that his
student years were spent in Konya and said, "We really liked the Mevlana
Rose Garden, it's beautiful. It's a must-visit place for those who are
interested in flowers. Municipalities are doing a fantastic job when it comes
to parks and gardens."
