The Mevlana Museum, where the tomb of the Turkish-Islamic
philosopher Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi is located, was visited by approximately
1.2 million visitors in the first 5 months of the year.
Every year, the Mevlana Museum, visited by tourists from all
around the world in response to Mevlana's call to "come again whoever you
are," holds significant potential in terms of history, culture, and
religious tourism.
Located in the central district of Karatay in Konya, the
museum is considered the center of the Mevlevi Order and attracts a large
number of visitors from both domestic and international origins.
While the Mevlana Museum houses nearly 10,000 artifacts, the
Dome of Whirling Dervishes (Green Dome), where Mevlana's tomb is located,
constitutes the most prominent section of the museum, capturing the attention
of visitors.
Abdüssettar Yarar, the Director of Provincial Directorate of
Culture and Tourism, stated that the Mevlana Museum is one of the most visited
museums in Turkey.
Referring to the gradual opening of the tourism season in
the country, Yarar mentioned, "Last year, approximately 3.85 million
people visited the Mevlana Museum, and from the beginning of this year (January
1 - May 23 period), it has been visited by around 1.2 million people. We anticipate
that this year's numbers will surpass those of last year."
Yarar stated that the number of visitors to the museum
during the first 5 months of last year was recorded as 988,528. He also
mentioned that approximately 125,000 visitors have toured the museum in May of
this year.
Yarar noted that out of the visitors in May, approximately
60,000 were foreign tourists. He continued, saying:
"Hazrat Mevlana is one of our renowned figures who has
gained worldwide recognition. With his profound teachings, understanding, and
tolerance, he continues to resonate more and more with humanity. This
recognition allows people to come to Konya and visit the Mevlana Museum.
Consequently, the number of foreign visitors increases every year."
