From Karatay to the Olympics: Champions Meet Mayor

The Karatay Belediyespor Club Deaf Wrestling Team has made Karatay and Konya proud with its achievements.


The team, which participated in the Deaf Riza Keskin Youth and Cadets Turkey Wrestling Championship with 12 athletes, returned from the tournament with significant rankings.


Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca hosted the champion athletes at the municipality and congratulated them for their achievements.


The Karatay Belediyespor Club Deaf Wrestling Team participated in the Deaf Riza KESKİN Youth and Cadets Turkey Championship held in Sivas from April 17-20, 2025, with 12 athletes and achieved great success.


In the Youth Freestyle category, Muhittin Kolçak became the Turkish champion in the 125 kg weight class, while Mehmet Vural secured second place in the 60 kg category. As a team, they earned third place in the Youth Freestyle category at the national level.


Additionally, Muhittin Kolçak placed second in the 130 kg weight class in the Youth Greco-Roman Style. In the Senior Freestyle category, Mustafa Dölek finished fifth in the 57 kg, Mehmet Dölek in the 65 kg, Murat Mert İnan in the 86 kg, Ömer Çek in the 97 kg, and Cuma Sarıgül in the 125 kg. The team also achieved third place in the Senior Greco-Roman Style at the national level.


Following their success, Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca hosted the champion wrestlers and the Karatay Belediyespor Club officials at his office.


Mayor Kılca, emphasizing that the young athletes from Karatay proudly represented the district, said the following: "These achievements have made us extremely happy. You are successfully promoting Karatay's name across Turkey. One of the most important elements of sports is infrastructure, and we attach great importance to this point as the Karatay Municipality. Our goal is to develop athletes for our national teams from Karatay, guide our youth towards sports, and prepare them for the future in the best way possible. I congratulate each of our athletes individually. I also congratulate our team for placing third in Turkey as a team. We expect great success from you both in the national team and especially in the Olympics."
