Sinem Oruc, the national judoka of Konya Metropolitan
Municipality Sports Club, became the European Champion for the second
consecutive time by winning the gold medal in the women's 63-kilogram category
at the European Judo Championships held in Portugal. Representing Konya with
the national team, the judokas from Konya Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club
made us proud by achieving one European championship and third place.
A total of 413 judokas, including 189 women from 39
countries, participated in the Junior European Judo Championships held in the
city of Odivelas, Portugal. Turkey competed in the championship with 16
athletes, consisting of 10 women and 6 men. Representing our country, Sinem
Oruç from Konya Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club competed in the
63-kilogram category, Rahime Ercin in the 40-kilogram category, and Elifnur
Yalcın in the 52-kilogram category.
In the second round, Sinem Oruc defeated her Bulgarian
opponent, advancing to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, the athlete
from Konya defeated her Dutch opponent in 4 minutes, securing a spot in the
semifinals. By surpassing her Croatian opponent in the semifinals, Oruc secured
her place in the final. In the gold medal match, Oruc once again defeated
another Croatian athlete by earning an ippon point, thus becoming the owner of
the gold medal. With this achievement, Sinem Oruc proudly brought honor to our
city and country by winning the European Champion title for the second
consecutive time.
Another judoka from Konya Metropolitan Municipality Sports
Club, Rahime Ercin, competed in the 40-kilogram category at the championship in
Portugal. Ercin, participating in the European Championships for the first
time, achieved the success of winning the bronze medal by finishing in third place.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur Ibrahim Altay
congratulated the judokas and coaches from Konya Metropolitan Municipality
Sports Club, who have become a source of pride for Turkey with their medals,
and wished them continued success.
