Konya Metropolitan Reaches 220000 People with Sports Services in 2024

In 2024, Konya Metropolitan Municipality provided sports services to hundreds of thousands of people from all segments of society.

Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that, with the “Konya Model Municipality” approach, Konya continues to play a pioneering and leading role in Turkey, not only in various fields but also in youth and sports. Highlighting their aim to spread sports to all segments of society, especially children and young people, Mayor Altay noted that many sports events were organized in 2024. He stated:

“Our sports schools, held in 28 districts outside the city center, introduced 20,000 children to sports this year. Additionally, our sports festivals, which included different age groups and sports disciplines and were organized in districts such as Beyşehir, Cihanbeyli, Ereğli, Ilgın, Karapınar, Seydişehir, Çumra, Akşehir, and Kulu, attracted the participation of 125,000 residents. Through Parkur Konya, a program designed for students preparing for special talent exams for institutions such as BESYO, Sports High Schools, Sports Sciences Faculties, police academies, and military schools, 3,000 young people achieved their dreams this year. As part of our ‘No Child Left Without Learning to Swim’ project, which involved 3rd-grade students from Meram, Karatay, Karapınar, and Ereğli districts, we provided basic swimming training to 7,500 children. Lastly, our ‘Sports Konya’ camps, aimed at further enhancing the city’s sports potential, hosted 37,350 participants in 2024.”

Mayor Altay highlighted the strong interest in sports events organized for adults, stating: “Our 4th ‘International Konya Half Marathon,’ held in 2024, attracted 15,000 sports enthusiasts. Similarly, our nature walk events brought together 3,500 nature lovers seeking healthy living and an opportunity to explore the city’s natural beauty. Additionally, with our personalized online sports training program, which we initiated during the pandemic and has seen growing interest each year, 9,000 sports enthusiasts had the chance to exercise remotely in 2024.”

Mayor Altay shared the joy of providing sports services to over 220,000 people in 2024, stating: “With the sports facilities we’ve brought to Konya and our organizational capacity, we have become one of the prominent sports cities in our country. Ensuring that our children and youth grow up as healthy individuals, participate in social life, and adopt sports as a lifestyle is among our top priorities. Our determination to make our city a leader in every area of sports will continue to grow in the future.”
