Konya Proudly Carried the Title of “2023 World Sports Capital”


Konya, declared as the '2023 World Sports Capital' by the Federation of European Sports Capitals and Cities (ACES), proudly carried this title for one year.


With the concerted efforts of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, the title of "2023 World Sports Capital" bestowed upon the city was successfully concluded with the handover ceremony held in the capital of Belgium, Brussels.



The awards ceremony of the Federation of European Sports Capitals and Cities took place at the European Parliament Building in Brussels, the central hub of the European Union and the capital of Belgium. ACES President Gian Francesco Lupattelli expressed gratitude to Konya Metropolitan Municipality during the ceremony for its sports investments and organized events in the year 2023.



Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay proudly stated that they carried the title of "2023 World Sports Capital" in the 100th year of the Republic. He emphasized the significance of the World Sports Capital title, which added extra importance due to the centennial celebration of the Republic. Altay mentioned that Konya hosted numerous nationally and internationally acclaimed sports events under this title. He expressed gratitude to everyone involved and noted that the 2023 World Sports Capital title helped bring Konya's name to the forefront globally, contributing to the city's brand value.



Konya became the first city in Turkey and the second in Europe after Madrid to earn the prestigious title of "World Sports Capital," one of the most prestigious sports designations on a global scale.
