Konya's Judo Star Targets Olympic Glory

The national judoka from Konya, Sinem Oruç, became the champion at the European Judo Cup held in Poland.

The young judoka aims to win a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

At the European Judo Cup held in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, on May 18-19, 17-year-old national judoka Sinem Oruç represented Turkey.

Sinem Oruç, who defeated her German opponent Sara-Tamar in the final to become the champion, achieved her second European championship title this year.

Oruç said, "I have been practicing judo at the Konya Büyükşehir Club for 10 years. My interest in martial arts started because my sister was doing karate. Then, thanks to my coaches Hakan and Şeyda, I started this sport. I have become the European champion twice and have a world championship title. In 2023, I also came in second at the Youth Olympics. Most recently, I became the champion at the European Cup held in Poland. My goal is to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games, compete there, and bring the championship to both our country and Konya."
