Konya Metropolitan Municipality has started the Summer Sports Schools organized in districts. Approximately 8,000 students are receiving sports training in 26 different branches.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur Ibrahim Altay
expressed great satisfaction with the interest in the summer sports schools
they initiated to ensure that children and young people between the ages of 6
and 16 in 28 districts outside the city center spend their summer vacation in
the most productive way.
Mayor Altay emphasized that Konya is a city of sports and
that receiving the title of 2023 World Sports Capital has further solidified
this reputation. He expressed great enthusiasm about the commencement of the
Summer Sports Schools in the districts, emphasizing the importance of engaging our
children, who are the guarantee of our future, in sports during their holiday
period. The goal is to make their summer vacation both enjoyable and to ensure
they engage in sports, promoting their growth as healthy and active
individuals. Additionally, the sports schools play a vital role in integrating
sports into the lives of our children. Mayor Altay wished success to all the
students participating in the Summer Sports Schools.
Konya Governorship, Konya Metropolitan Municipality,
Provincial Directorate of National Education, Youth and Sports Provincial
Directorate, and district municipalities have jointly organized summer sports
schools for students aged 6-16 in 28 districts outside the city center. These
schools have started their training sessions with approximately 8,000 students.
The Summer Sports Schools provide services in 26 different branches, including
football, basketball, badminton, handball, chess, taekwondo, swimming,
kickboxing, table tennis, archery, volleyball, wushu, gymnastics, futsal,
orienteering, tennis, darts, boxing, folk dances, weightlifting, canoeing,
wrestling, karate, bocce, judo, and Muaythai. They are conducted by 140 expert
sports instructors at 40 sports facilities.
