Konya to Host 2026 Elite European Track Cycling Championships

Konya Olympic Velodrome, Türkiye’s first Olympic velodrome, will host the 2026 Elite European Track Cycling Championships.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that Konya is truly a sports city, particularly in terms of its facilities, and said that the city has hosted many major sporting events.

Mayor Altay emphasized that having a prestigious facility such as the Konya Olympic Velodrome creates many opportunities for the city, stating: “Hosting such an event in Konya, which has been selected as the 2026 European Cycling Capital, is extremely important both for promoting our city and for making a significant contribution to its economy. We have completed all preparations to welcome our guests in the best possible way and to ensure that the competition is held at the highest level. I wish it to be successful in advance and invite everyone to watch the races.”

As Türkiye’s only Olympic velodrome and one of just 20 Olympic velodromes in the world, the Konya Olympic Velodrome will this time welcome Europe’s fastest cyclists, opening a new chapter in cycling history.

The Konya Olympic Velodrome will welcome sports fans with its 250-meter track, set within a 17,600-square-meter area, and a seating capacity of 2,329 spectators.

At the championship to be organized by the European Cycling Union (UEC) and the Turkish Cycling Federation at the Konya Olympic Velodrome from February 1 to 5, competitions will be held in both women’s and men’s categories, including team pursuit, team sprint, elimination race, sprint, keirin, madison, and omnium events.

The five-day event will bring together 315 athletes from 30 countries, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
