Konya's Athlete Takes Bronze at the Deaflympics

Esma Gökülü, the successful judoka of Konya Büyükşehir Belediyespor, made Türkiye and Konya proud at the 2025 Summer Deaflympics held in Tokyo.

The 2025 Summer Deaflympics are ongoing in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. In the highly competitive games, Esma Gökülü of Konya Büyükşehir Belediyespor, who represented Türkiye in the women’s 63 kg category, finished in third place and claimed the bronze medal.

Gökülü’s achievement stood out as one of Türkiye’s first medals in the major event, which features athletes from 80 countries.

Esma Gökülü had previously drawn attention with her achievements in the junior and youth categories at the Turkish championships, and she had also made her mark internationally by winning a silver medal at the Deaflympics held in Brazil.
