Konya’s Athletes Continue to Impress

Athletes from Konya Büyükşehir Belediyespor continue to make Konya and Türkiye proud with their outstanding performances at national and international competitions across multiple sports.

Konya Büyükşehir Belediyespor taekwondo athlete Melek Su Dönmez achieved a remarkable result while representing the Turkish national team at the Batumi Open held in Batumi, Georgia.

Competing in the Girls’ Cadet Under-29 kg category on August 1, the national athlete delivered an impressive performance to finish second and claim the silver medal.

The internationally renowned tournament brought together 660 athletes from 10 countries. Representing Türkiye in the cadet category, 20 national team athletes concluded the competition with a total of 14 medals, including eight gold, five silver, and one bronze. Melek Su Dönmez’s silver medal also made a valuable contribution to the Turkish team’s successful campaign.

National judoka Sude İnan also made both her club and Türkiye proud with her achievements at the Senior Balkan Judo Championships held in Tirana, the capital of Albania.

Competing in the women’s 52 kg division during the August 1–2 event, the accomplished judoka displayed great determination against strong opponents to secure the bronze medal and finish third at the Balkan Championships.

After winning bronze in the individual competition, Sude also represented the Turkish national team at the Senior Mixed Team Balkan Championships. Competing in the 57 kg category, she played a key role in helping Türkiye claim the team bronze trophy with her strong performance.

Sude concluded the Balkan Championships with two major achievements: an individual bronze medal and a team bronze trophy won with the Turkish national team.

The 2026 Turkish Track Cycling Championships, included in the Turkish Cycling Federation’s annual competition calendar, delivered thrilling racing at the Konya Olympic Velodrome. Competing against the country’s top cyclists, Konya Büyükşehir Belediyespor emerged as one of the standout teams of the championship with its impressive results.

Making the most of home advantage, the yellow-and-black club collected a total of 13 medals throughout the championship, winning five gold, six silver, and two bronze medals.

Now regarded as one of the rising forces in Turkish cycling, Konya Büyükşehir Belediyespor reached the podium in the Omnium, Elite Men’s Individual Pursuit, Elite Men’s Elimination Race, Elite Men’s Scratch Race, Elite Men’s Points Race, and Endurance Classification events, adding another series of notable achievements to its record.

Hosted by Konya, the 2026 European Capital of Cycling, the championship drew widespread praise from both cycling enthusiasts and the cycling community for the high level of competition on display.
