In the ongoing European Weightlifting Championships for
seniors in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, national athletes continue to win
medals.
The competition, which saw the participation of a total of
318 athletes, including 172 women and 146 men from 40 countries, saw Konya
Olympic Preparation Center (TOHM) athlete Nuray Güngör win two gold medals and
become the European champion in the women's 64 kg category with a snatch of 99
kg and a total of 219 kg. She also led the Turkish national anthem to be played.
In the clean and jerk discipline, she won a bronze medal with a lift of 120 kg.
Aysel Özkan, a Konya Sports High School employee and also a TOHM athlete, won a
silver medal in the snatch discipline with a lift of 98 kg and finished the
competition with a clean and jerk of 115 kg and a total of 213 kg. The national
athletes expressed their pride and happiness in representing Turkey in the best
way possible. Konya Youth and Sports Provincial Director Abdurrahman Şahin
congratulated Nuray and Aysel by saying, "I wholeheartedly congratulate
our Konya TOHM athlete Nuray Güngör, who became the European champion in the
European Weightlifting Championships, and our Konya TOHM athlete Aysel Özkan,
who won a silver medal."
