Kyrgyz Student in Konya Aims to Join Turkey’s National Team

Kyrgyz student Shakhlokhan Khodzha Akhunova, who came to Konya for university education, aims to make a name for herself in traditional Turkish archery on a global scale.

Akhunova, who studies on a scholarship at Konya Chamber of Commerce (KTO) Karatay University and speaks five languages, is not only pursuing her education in the International Trade and Logistics Department at the Faculty of Economic, Administrative, and Social Sciences, but also working for the success of the Meram Belediyespor Traditional Turkish Archery Team.

Inspired by national archer Mete Gazoz, Akhunova started the sport three years ago. In a short time, her impressive performance earned her a spot on the traditional archery team, and she began participating in competitions.

Most recently, Akhunova became the individual and team champion at the inter-university championship. She aims to compete in the Turkish national team to achieve international success.

Akhunova, expressing that sports have positively impacted many areas of her life and helped her improve, said:

"Living in Turkey and receiving education here was my dream. My friends are proud of me for living and studying in Turkey. Education is more challenging here compared to Kyrgyzstan, but I am happy. The facilities are more advanced. If my application for Turkish citizenship is accepted, I am considering participating in the national team selection. I really want to compete in the national team. My goal is to win championships in international competitions."
