The World's Most Prestigious Event Starts in Konya

The 2025 UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup, one of the world's most prestigious cycling events, has started in Konya.


The opening ceremony of the 2025 UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup, held in Turkey for the first time and featuring over 350 athletes from 44 countries, has taken place.


President of the Turkish Cycling Federation, Emin Müftüoğlu, spoke at the ceremony held at the Konya Olympic Velodrome, expressing his gratitude to those who contributed to the establishment of the velodrome for Turkey, Konya, and the cycling community. Müftüoğlu stated, “This is the temple of cycling. We have worked together with our Governor, Mayor, and the city of Konya for a long time to achieve this. We have accomplished great things together. I also want to thank former federation president Erol Küçükbakırcı, who is here with us today. The cycling community is united, and I believe that from this temple, we will see European, world, and Olympic champions emerge. Konya has what it takes to produce these champions.”


Konya Hosts One of the World's Most Prestigious Events


Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that they were witnessing a historic day for the city.


Expressing pride in hosting the UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup, one of the world's most prestigious events, at the Konya Olympic Velodrome—one of Turkey's most important facilities—Mayor Altay said, “In this wonderful atmosphere, I am delighted to be together with athletes from all over the world and to welcome you to our city.”


Konya Governor İbrahim Akın thanked everyone who contributed to organizing such a major event in Konya and wished success to the athletes from all around the world.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Safa Koçoğlu, expressed his joy in hosting a well-organized event at the velodrome in Konya, one of the cities with a deep-rooted history of civilization.


Following the speeches, the certificate accrediting the Konya Olympic Velodrome for 10 years by the International Cycling Union (UCI) was presented to the officials.


In the event, which will conclude on March 16 in Konya, athletes compete in seven disciplines—elimination race, sprint, omnium, keirin, madison, team pursuit, and team sprint—in both men's and women's categories.
