Turkey's road to Olympic success has been bolstered by the opening of the country's first Olympic velodrome in Konya in 2022, and Turkish Cycling Federation President Emin Müftüoğlu has since highlighted the remarkable strides Turkish cycling has made in recent years, setting a clear goal for Olympic success.
In an interview, Müftüoğlu shared his thoughts on the sport's remarkable progress, highlighting key investments in youth development and the rising aspirations of Turkish cyclists.
"We are beginning to see the rewards of our hard work," he stated, underscoring the ongoing development of cycling in Turkey.
Müftüoğlu also acknowledged the achievements of Turkish cyclists at the recent Balkan Track Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where the national team claimed multiple medals. "We’re now securing significant victories in the Balkans, particularly in track cycling," he noted.
He proudly reflected on last year's historic success at the European Championship, where Turkey earned its first-ever silver and bronze medals in the event.
"Our primary focus now is the Olympics," he emphasized. "It’s been nearly half a century since we competed in track cycling at the Olympics, and that is our ultimate goal."
Turkey’s journey toward Olympic success has been further supported by the opening of the country’s first Olympic velodrome in Konya in 2022, a project spearheaded by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
"We owe this achievement to our president and to our Minister of Youth and Sports, Osman Aşkın Bak, whose leadership made this vision a reality," he concluded.
