The International Cycling Union (UCI) announced that, following a technical inspection, it has granted the Konya Velodrome accreditation valid for 10 years.
With this development, national and international events held at the Konya Velodrome will gain official status, and the achievements recorded here will be recognized by the UCI.
Previously hosting races with special permission during the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games, the Konya Velodrome will now be able to host UCI-approved events.
TURKEY'S FIRST OLYMPIC VELODROME
Located in Konya’s Meram district, the facility stands out as Turkey’s first Olympic velodrome, featuring a modern infrastructure and a seating capacity of 2,275. As the newest among the 30 indoor Olympic velodromes worldwide, the Konya Velodrome aims to make a significant contribution to cycling with its adherence to international standards.
Following its accreditation, the velodrome will host the UCI Nations Cup from March 14-16, 2025. This major event, featuring 360 athletes from 44 countries, will mark a significant milestone in Turkey's development in track cycling.
President of the Turkish Cycling Federation, Emin Müftüoğlu, stated that the UCI accreditation of the Konya Velodrome is a milestone for Turkey. Müftüoğlu said, “We have been waiting for this approval for a long time. Now, we can organize both national and international track cycling races. We have applied for the European Championship, and our athlete development projects are continuing at full speed.”
