Konya Science Festival Inspires Youth

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that the festival at Konya Science Center, Turkey’s first and largest TÜBİTAK-supported science center, has attracted great interest. He added, “Until the evening of August 24, our Science Festival will welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors in Konya.”

Speaking at the event, which drew tens of thousands of visitors from different cities across Türkiye, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that Konya has long been a center of knowledge and wisdom. He quoted Mevlana, saying, “A person’s knowledge and manners are their greatest treasures; they do not decay, spoil, or disappear.” Altay continued, “The seeds of science planted in Konya, the darülmülk, 800 years ago are once again flourishing in this square today. Our Konya Science Center, opened in 2014 as Türkiye’s first and largest TÜBİTAK-supported science center, has not only become a brand in itself but has also fostered many significant initiatives. One of these is the Science Festival we are enjoying together today. Alongside this, our KAPSÜL Technology Platform provides vital support for young people, helping them prepare for competitions in such festivals and opening horizons for building the Türkiye of the future. Our Social Innovation Agency is another important outcome of the Konya Science Center. Konya was an important center of science in the past, and today it continues to hold this role with its five universities and 130,000 students.”

Mayor Altay highlighted that many of Türkiye’s leading brands are present at the festival, saying, “From TÜMOSAN to HAVELSAN, from ASELSAN to TUSAŞ, from BAYKAR to TÜBİTAK, all the brands of Türkiye’s National Technology Initiative are here in Konya, competing to meet with you. In addition, more than 200 activities have been prepared for you and for our children. We sincerely believe that the children attending the Science Festival will grow up to become the generation that builds Türkiye’s future. These workshops are not only about improving our children’s skills or fostering a love of science but also about giving them dreams and a vision. To realize the Century of Türkiye, we extend our deepest respect and gratitude to our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who launched the National Technology Initiative.”

Konya Governor İbrahim Akın, in his speech, expressed his hope that the Konya Science Festival would inspire young people, bring hope to families, and contribute new ideas to the world of science.
