Located at the foot of the Central Taurus Mountains, Bozkır is one of the oldest settlements in Konya. Known in ancient times as Leontopolis, or the City of Lions, Bozkır has been home to numerous civilizations throughout history.
The settlement was also referred to as "Siristat," "Silistad," or "Serüstad" by locals in ancient times. According to a popular legend, the name "Serüstad" is derived from the title of the chief master of the Silvery Lead Mine, which was located at Tufan Creek and processed in the Selimiye School.
Bozkır is renowned for its fresh air, fragrant thyme and pine, cold spring waters, and the highlands where both nomads and locals reside. The Taurus Mountains are dotted with highlands such as Tufan Creek, Sarıot, Sülek, Tosun Taş, and Gölcük, all rising above 2,000 meters.
In addition to natural wonders like streams, lakes, and sinkholes, these fertile highlands are home to ancient ruins and traces of life from various historical periods. Fascinating legends are told about the highlands, and many stories surround the relief paintings carved into the walls of old caves and the ancient embroidered figures passed down through generations.
Every August, the Bozkır Municipality organizes a "Culture and Art Festival," which lasts several days. This festival offers a unique opportunity to experience traditional nomadic life and local culture up close. The people of Bozkır eagerly await your visit, with their musical instruments, highlands, and Yoruk traditions ready to share.
