Konya Metropolitan Municipality is distributing 72,652 fruit saplings to farmers across Konya as part of its agricultural support program.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to provide uninterrupted seedling and sapling support to promote rural development and increase production.
Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, who previously distributed walnut saplings to registered farmers, emphasized that Konya is a significant agricultural city and stated that they are implementing various projects to support agricultural production.
Mayor Altay stated that they always stand by farmers through support programs and various initiatives, saying, “In this city that produces for Turkey, we continuously support our farmers. Since 2018, we have provided over 500,000 saplings to farmers with a 50% grant to enhance product diversity and create new income opportunities.”
"INCREASING CROP DIVERSITY IN KONYA WILL HELP BOOST FARMERS' INCOME"
Mayor Altay emphasized that they encourage farmers to grow water-efficient crops and engage in fruit production to both increase their income and promote water conservation. He stated, “This season, we are distributing 72,652 apple, walnut, grapevine, raspberry, and blackberry saplings. Today, we will distribute 13,000 walnut saplings to our farmers. I invite all farmers to participate in our 50% grant-supported programs. Hopefully, increasing crop diversity in Konya will contribute to boosting farmers' income. I wish them success and hope they use these saplings in good times. May God bless us with abundant and beneficial rainfall. Best wishes.”
"THESE INITIATIVES ARE VERY WELL-PLANNED"
Karatay Chamber of Agriculture President Rıfat Kavuneker thanked Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay for his support, stating, “Our country is experiencing drought. The Konya Plain is not a heavily forested region; it is a closed basin. That’s why these initiatives are very well-planned. If we afforest this land and generate income from these trees, we will not only attract more rainfall but also support our families. I especially urge our farmers to be mindful of this—almond trees are highly beneficial in combating Sunn pests. If our farmers take advantage of the Metropolitan Municipality’s support, they will contribute both to pest control and their own budgets.”
Farmers expressed their satisfaction with the productivity of the provided seedlings and saplings, thanking Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay for the support.
