Konya Leads Turkey in Agricultural Land

Konya stands out as the province with the largest agricultural land in Turkey, highlighting its central role in the country’s farming production.

According to data from Turkish Statistical Institute, Konya, Ankara, and Şanlıurfa are the provinces with the widest farming areas. Konya alone has 19 million 106 thousand 386 decares of agricultural land, accounting for 8 percent of Turkey’s total farmland. Nearly 96.9 percent of this area is used for cereals and other field crops, while more than 5.5 million decares of cereal land are left fallow each year. The size of Konya’s farmland is remarkable, as it is almost equal to the total land area of Israel.

In terms of product groups, Konya ranks first in cereal and field crop cultivation. Antalya leads vegetable production with 479 thousand decares, while Ordu has the largest area for fruit, beverage, and medicinal plants, covering 2 million 277 thousand 326 decares. Ornamental plant cultivation is most extensive in İzmir, with a total area of 13 thousand 899 decares.
