With the support of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, the lavender planted in Güneysınır as an alternative crop has been harvested.
Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Uğur İbrahim Altay, stated that they are carrying out valuable efforts aimed at increasing the income of citizens living in rural areas and bringing unused lands into agricultural production.
Mayor Altay stated, “In the districts of Güneysınır and Çumra, which we designated as pilot regions in Konya, we distributed a total of 2 million lavender seedlings over an area of 1.3 million square meters to farmers who received training in lavender cultivation and wished to engage in production, providing up to 85% grant support. We also supported agricultural mechanization by donating lavender planting and harvesting machines to our producers. At the distillation facility we established in Güneysınır, our producers are able to extract oils from lavender and other medicinal aromatic plants. We will always stand by our producers who work, produce, and contribute to this country.”
President of the Güneysınır Agricultural Development Cooperative, Mustafa Kurşun, stated that the project implemented by Konya Metropolitan Municipality in Güneysınır is a highly significant initiative aimed at improving the income and socio-economic status of local producers. Emphasizing that the Municipality has provided substantial support not only in fruit growing and viticulture but also in the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, Kurşun expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project.
