The Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to support agriculture and agricultural projects in order to contribute to plant and animal production.
The President of the International Association of Agricultural Cities and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Uğur İbrahim Altay, stated that while continuing to be a pioneer in agriculture and contribute to the national economy, they also continue to provide financial support to farmers.
Mayor Altay stated, "We are continuing our efforts within the scope of the project implemented to increase the plant and animal production of farmers in our 31 districts and to enable them to produce their own feed. In this regard, as the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, we provided our farmers with 242,000 kilograms of certified Hungarian vetch seeds for the 2023-2024 production season, with 50% grant support, covering an area of 24,200 decares. From production to harvest, our agricultural engineers provided technical support regarding the planting and cultivation of forage crops, as well as all the information and practices our farmers wanted to learn."
Farmers in Konya's Kavak neighborhood who benefited from the Hungarian vetch seed support have completed their harvest. The farmers, who expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the seeds and the support they received, thanked Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay.
The farmers are aiming for approximately 17,000 tons of dry hay yield this year with the support of the Hungarian vetch seeds.
Hungarian vetch, an annual forage crop, is an indispensable rotation plant in arid regions. It holds a significant place in animal nutrition and makes the soil more fertile by fixing free nitrogen from the air into the soil, leaving a substantial amount of organic matter.
